CUSTOM INLAYS

Custom inlays are an excellent way to add your personal style to your trumpet. While our most common request is for finger button inlays, we can also make them for your stop screws, pull knobs, water keys, and even bottom caps. Our shop offers a variety of options for inlay materials at several different price points. You’ll find a bit more information about our different inlay offerings below as well as some photos of our sample case and just a few examples of the many inlays we’ve done over the years. We do inlays for our instruments, but we will also make inlays for other trumpet models. Please contact us to discuss the options that are right for your instrument.

Composite Inlays

This category encompasses the most popular and most budget-friendly options for inlays that we offer. Inlays in these composite materials can be obtained in a wide variety of colors and visual textures. Some of our most requested composite inlays are the charoite, Arizona jade, Blood Basin jasper,  and turquoise options. Something that we really love about the composite inlays is that they polish out to a beautiful shine that really makes the color pop against just about any finish. Because of the wide range of available colors, it is pretty much a sure bet that you will find an inlay that matches your horn’s finish and your personal style. Let us know if there is a particular color or look that you are going for, and we may be able to offer you additional options beyond what is pictured here.

Specialty Inlays

Our specialty inlays are certainly colorful and include Fordite, surfite, and lab-grown opal. For those that don’t know, Fordite, a customer favorite, is a material created by the pooling of automotive paint drippings that collect on the factory floor. Similarly, surfite is created from surfboard paint drippings. We get the pleasure of picking out small sections of these materials to really make your inlays stand out. One of our most recent additions in this category is opal, and we can say that it really looks exceptional with a polished finish. These inlays can be a great option for someone who is willing to spend a little bit more to really get those gorgeous colors that these unique materials offer.

Real Stone Inlays

While most of the inlays that we do are either done with composite or specialty materials, we know some customers prefer the look and feel of real stone. We’ve had the pleasure of doing a variety of real stone inlays, including lapis lazuli, turquoise, carnelian, jasper, sandstone, blue river agate, and pietersite, just to name a few. Some folks choose to provide us with the stone to use, and some prefer that we purchase the stone for them. We love finding out the personal connections people have to the stones they choose, whether it’s a sentimental tie or just a favorite stone. Pricing for real stone inlays varies due to the cost of the stone and how difficult that particular stone is to work with. Please contact us directly for more specific pricing.

Pricing

Our pricing is listed below. Please note that if you need to purchase a finger button set for us to put inlays in, there will be an additional $50 charge. If you need to purchase a stop screw for us to put an inlay in, there will be an additional $40 charge. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about inlay materials or pricing.
